CovaMed is currently working to commercialize the following products based on our proprietary technology platform. The company's technology is covered by a patent pending filed in 2004.
CovaSTAT

CovaSTAT Surgical Hemostat

 CovaSTAT is comprised of three components: a protein solution, a proprietary crosslinker, and a collagen patch. The crosslinker and albumin solution are delivered via a double-barreled syringe using a replaceable vortex mixing tip. This allows the product to be used as a hemostat to seal large vigorously bleeding surfaces such as a liver or spleen. CovaSTAT can also seal large vascular defects under high (arterial) pressure.
CovaBOND
CovaBOND Surgical Adhesive/Sealent CovaBOND is comprised of two components: a protein solution and a proprietary crosslinker which are delivered via a double-barreled syringe using assorted vortex mixing tips. This product is intended as a sealant to be used in addition to sutures and staples as well as a high-strength glue to replace sutures during minimally invasive surgery.

ADVANTAGES

Both CovaBOND and CovaSTAT have several advantages over competitive products such as:

  • CovaSTAT can be applied to a wet, actively bleeding surface.
  • Room temperature storage and shipping.
  • No pre-heating and/or pre-mixing.
  • Ready to go off the shelf - just open the package and twist-on the tip.
  • Cures in less than 2 minutes without additional devices.
  • Does not depend on clotting factors.
  • Higher strength than fibrin glues and PEG's.
  • Ability to deliver through minimally invasive catheter tips.

These products are currently in the pre-clinical phase and CovaBOND and CovaSTAT are not yet available for clinical use. Both products are required to undergo regulatory approval.
